Process your future
The quantitative and qualitative supply of (qualified) personnel in the process and food industries will not meet future (replacement) demand in the coming years. The Practical Centre for Process Technology in Eastern Netherlands addresses this challenge by jointly developing and implementing education, placement, and mediation programmes, serving as the essential link between education and business within the process and food industries.
Practical and Knowledge Centre in Almelo for Process and Food Industries
To introduce children to the field of process and food technology, a practical centre is being developed at De Sumpel in Almelo. Practical lessons will commence in September at the new 100-square-meter facility, with an ambition to expand to 1,000 square meters. This initiative is a collaborative effort by Zone College, ROC, Saxion, and 42 companies in the Eastern Netherlands process and food sectors. Project leader Gerard Nijhuis from Zone College notes the severe shortage of staff in process and food technology. "Many sectors face a shortage of workers, but in this industry, finding personnel is especially challenging," he explains. "Some companies are questioning whether they’ll still be operational in four to five years. By exposing children to the food and process industries from a young age—around 7 or 8, when their brains are still forming—we hope to spark their interest in the field and increase their familiarity with the food industry. People consume food all day long, yet most never consider the origins of cookies, milk, fish, or meat. We aim to change that perspective.”
