Circular Textile
Twente has a long history in the textile industry. Within the TexPlus partnership, efforts are being made toward circular textiles, developing new methods to extend the lifespan of textiles and turn discarded textiles back into usable fibres. The six TexPlus partners—Twente Milieu, Regionaal Textielsorteercentrum Twente, Frankenhuis, Saxion (project lead), SaXcell, and Enschede Textielstad—have developed a chain-based approach, where the different chain partners collaborate on collection, sorting, processing, and spinning.
In the Netherlands, four regions have been designated, each with its own focus, working on the transition to circular textiles (Dutch Circular Textile Valley). Twente is recognised as the region where fibre and recycling techniques are being developed. The long-term goal of TexPlus is to make Twente a leader in circular textiles by connecting networks and expanding a circular textile hub for knowledge, innovation, education, and industry in Twente.
