TopFit Citizenlab
The goal of this project is to mobilise citizens to work on their own health. It aims to leverage new technology in close connection with science and society.
"It’s All About Valuable Connections"
The Topfit Citizenlab is running the ‘loneliness’ pilot in Rossum, a village with a vibrant community life. A cultural centre and the local municipality are involved. “Everyone participating has the intrinsic motivation to address the issue of loneliness,” says project leader Jeroen Ottink. Students spoke with individuals who were suspected of experiencing loneliness. “The target group mentioned that they would like to go swimming together or have a meal, but not with the volunteers who had offered to help. Instead, they preferred contact with the engaging students who visited them for the research.” His conclusion is that it all comes down to valuable connections. “Even in Twente, where the tradition of neighbourly support (‘noaberschap’) is still strong, loneliness exists. We must work together to prevent loneliness from leading to problems or even social isolation.”
