The future of advanced production in Twente

Advanced Manufacturing Program

The Advanced Manufacturing Program is focused on the manufacturing industry in Twente. This programme supports companies in transforming traditional production practices through automation, using digital technologies such as robotics, additive manufacturing, factory simulation, and virtual reality.

The Advanced Manufacturing Program is part of the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Advanced Manufacturing. Through this project, companies are supported in developing new innovative projects and, together with experienced engineers and student assistance, in creating solutions. By introducing students to Twente companies during their studies, the chances of retaining regional talent and attracting talent from other regions are increased, providing a dual benefit.

An Optimal Planning System is Essential in Sheet Metal Production
Guido Slump, Director of Disselhorst Metaal in Raalte, a company with 87 employees, is participating in the Advanced Manufacturing Program. Disselhorst produces sheet metal for machine building, vehicle construction, interior design, and agriculture. Within the project, Disselhorst aims to accelerate production with support from the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform. A key requirement for participation is that companies must invest themselves, an approach Slump appreciates. Slump notes, “This means we contribute manpower to achieve something within this project that will be useful for other companies as well. For the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform, there is also a business model behind this, which makes sense. We’re working on this project with four industry peers—competitors, if you will. We each use the model for our own growth, but as chain partners, we are also making the entire chain more efficient together.”
