Twente is a region with ambition
Through four focus areas – ChipTech, MedTech, Defence and Talent – we are strengthening our position as a leading green technology region. These focus areas contribute to innovation, economic growth, social progress and high-quality employment. Together, they bring together entrepreneurship, education, research and talent development to build a strong and future-proof region.
ChipTech
Twente is the national hub for chip design, integrated photonics and semiconductor technology. Companies, educational institutions and researchers work together here to develop the chips of the future. With facilities such as MESA+ Nanolab, the High Tech Factory and New Origin, Twente offers a unique environment for innovation, development and production.
MedTech
MedTech Twente is a leading ecosystem for medical technology and innovation. Here, companies, healthcare organisations and educational institutions work together to develop solutions that ensure healthcare remains accessible, affordable and sustainable. With the TechMed Centre, the MedTech Factory and initiatives centred on the hospital of the future, Twente is emerging as a European hotspot for healthtech.
Defence
Twente is emerging as a key region for defence and security technology. High-tech companies, educational institutions and testing facilities are working together on innovative solutions for defence and dual-use applications. In this way, Twente is contributing to security, resilience and technological progress.
Talent
Talent is the unifying force behind Twente’s development. By investing in education, lifelong learning and the recruitment and retention of talent, the region ensures it has a sufficient supply of people with the right knowledge and skills. This enables businesses and organisations to continue to grow, innovate and compete in a rapidly changing economy.
Programs and projects
Twente is developing through programs and projects within our strategic clusters. On this page, you can discover the current (innovation) projects in Twente.
Tomorrow’s world faces many societal challenges, such as the energy transition, ensuring that healthcare remains accessible, affordable, and staffed, and the transition to a sustainable and circular economy. These challenges require new technologies, innovations, and a sufficient supply of well-qualified talent. We therefore encourage innovative solutions, entrepreneurship in the field of (technical) innovations, and the application of knowledge and new technologies.
In this way, we are working to create a region where high-quality products, systems, and services are developed, and where talent can grow, connect, and stay.
